Queenstown Wine Trail – A Journey of the Senses

Located in Otago in New Zealand’s South Island, Queenstown is a town situated by the Wakatipu Lake. The town is a hub for snow sports in the country and tourists pour in from all parts of the world to ski at one of the four main mountains; the Remarkables, Coronet Peak, Treble Cone and Cardrona Alpine Resort. Queenstown is also a centre for adventure tourism with facilities for a variety of extreme sports such as bungee jumping, white water rafting and mountain biking. The region is particularly famous for its food and wine with Queenstown boasting many fine restaurants and bars.

One can learn more about the region’s special wines by taking a wine tour. These tours provide a fun and entertaining method of sightseeing and relaxing. The Queenstown Wine Trails offer a series of tours to the wineries and vineyards of Queenstown and the Central Otago region. One has the option of joining a regularly scheduled tour or go for a private one. The Daily Tours take visitors to four local wineries; the Combo Tours combine wine tasting with activities such as walking or going on a helicopter ride; the Personal Tours allows one complete freedom to decide the itinerary. The tours are limited to small groups giving it a more intimate feel. As part of the tour one can also sample local cheese and enjoy a delicious winery lunch.

The highly picturesque town remains a popular tourist destination throughout the year, with each season having its own appeal. Winter attracts those interested in trying out winter sports, spring is the best time for cycling, hiking and exploring the surrounding area, summer is the ideal time to try out a range of adventure sports, and autumn is simply a great time to enjoy nature.

No matter what time of the year one visits, it is always best to book a Queenstown hotel well in advance. Millennium Hotel Queenstown is a great accommodation option. This luxury hotel Queenstown is located mere minutes away from the town’s shopping and leisure areas. It is also close to the main ski centres making it the ideal place to stay.
