Hauraki Gulf & Islands

A treasure trove of astounding beauty and natural importance, the Hauraki Gulf in the north of New Zealand is not only a major tourist destination but also plays a significant role in day to day life of the locals. Spanning an area of 4000 square kilometers the Hauraki Gulf is bordered by the Auckland region, the Hauraki Plains the Great Barrier Island and the Coromandel Peninsula. Safe from turbulent winds and deadly currents, the gulf has been an integral part of human development in the region. It is believed that the origins of the biodiversity of the gulf dates back to 83 million years while archeological evidence dating as far back as 1000 years has been found.
The virgin beauty of the gulf and the surrounding islands are breathtaking. This panoramic view from atop a rocky cliff is something one is not likely to forget very soon. The gulf is home to a delicate and untarnished ecosystem and is home to hundreds of marine mammals as bottleneck dolphins and whales to Pukeko, Kukupas, Tomtits and such exotic birds of the coast. The nature park is also home to Kiwis, Brown Teals and many more creatures. The Hauraki Gulf is more than just a pleasure visit for the nature enthusiast. The surrounding islands also boast delicate ecosystems mostly untouched by human development and are a feast for the developed mind.
It is common knowledge that one in three Auckland Households own a boat and this is solely due to the presence of the Gulf which is practically at the city’s doorstep. Put on a sun hat and feel like a billionaire as you rock gently on the blue waters while waiting for a fish to take the bait. Swim in this pool from paradise surrounded by the magnificent beauty of the Gulf and let your troubles flow or just laze on the white sand and lose yourself in a book with only the call of a sea gulf to gently call you back to a paradise on earth.
Within easy distance of the Hauraki Gulf and many other attractions to make your visit memorable is the Copthorne Hotel, Auckland City. Being a central Auckland hotel it has successfully incorporated modern luxuries in a perfect blend to the natural beauty that surround this magnificent city making it a fine Auckland city hotel.
